Any help, I'm taking my wife wade fishing but don't have a clue where to go. We just want to catch some specs and reds. I'm a bass fisherman not saltwater, but she wants to go.
Thanks for any help

....Glad you and the "Mrs." are headed down to my neck of the woods! As the above asked....where are you going to be staying? What part of the Island?

We have been catching some really quality fish here lately....much better than last year!

....When are you guys going to be here?

...so good it tastes like it died screaming!

East Bay across from Rollover is good and you have a chance to catch some big ones too. If you have any more questions, just ask me.

Rollover pass, a cut between the Gulf and East Bay, over on the Bolivar side. Good place to fish.

East bay/Rollover are a long way from Galveston. It's a ferry ride, plus another 30 minutes of driving. If you're going to be in Galveston, it's like living on one lake, then driving to another lake. You've got water all around you in Galveston.

8 mile rd, as the refer to it, is on the west end of Galveston Island. Here's a link to it:

8 mile road map

If you're on the seawall, you essentially turn North off of the westerly end of the island, a couple of mile west of the actual seawall. That road dead ends into the bay.

Two words: ray guards.

Have fun, catch fish!

Yes.
This year seems to have even more rays than the previous years.
Watch out.

I think that 8 mile road might be the best for us. Is the early morning the best time or what do you suggest??

Guess I better start wearing the guards then. Are they out on the oyster reef too or just in the silt/sand

Rays are everywhere, especially around the oyster beds near 8 mile road and in the bays. You get some oysters back in there, also lots of sand and mud, dependng on how far and wide you range when you wade. Lots of people just fish off the hardpack. I've waded around 8 mile road and seen many rays several years ago. Shuffle your feet, watch for the small channels here and there.

The end of 8 mile road is actually a man made penninsula made of contruction trash packed into a pad, its rather unimpressive back there, but fishing can be really good. I might be there Thursday if the surf is hammered.
