My brother lost a rod and reel in the lake (Revo sx and Skeet Reese rod), accidentally dropped it over after he got hung up. Does anyone have any experience or ideas for retrieving a rod and reel from the bottom of the lake? Its in about 14 feet of water.

Thanks, Kyle

Drag a flutter spoon, slab, or crankbait along the bottom in the area and try to snag the line or pole.

Would a side imaging unit detect the rod on the bottom?

Unfortunately, we've tried that ... for about 8 hours.

Get one of the metal stringers with the metal snaps. Open all the snaps and tie the stringer on to a rod with some heavy braid. Throw that around for a while and you will snag it.

Well the lake is like chocolate milk but at that depth I could probably see. Unfortunatly I'm 2 hours away and diesel would almost cost me what the setup is worth. If I were you I would go buy a set of googles and swim down. 14 feet is nothing and if there wasnt a lot of wind it should be a relatively small search area.

Envision a carolina rig.

Below the swivel, run 3-4 bullet weights and just below each bullet weight, tie a big treble direct to the line.

Toss beyond area where u lost it and drag slow. It there is trash on the bottom, who knows????

well i lost a rod and reel in joe pool in about 11 ft- as soon as i knew it went overboard i marked a way point. so that evening i went to home depot- 3 ft piece of aluminum channel some small sash chain. drilled 5 holes evenly spaced out on aluminum channel- cut 5 piece of chain equal length - fastened to channel, attached a large treble hook to each chain then tied a rope to it. providing you know where it fell in start dragging the bottom. that is how i retrieved my lost rod and reel. it works- idea came from what the fire department uses to drag up bodies in waters. just a smaller version. i work in the warehouse for a fire department. remember to consider how much you may have drifted with wind and current.
