Most diamond jigs come with hooks, usually a treble. In fact, it's hard to find them without hooks Many people use an assist hook on diamond jigs with success. The size hook depends on the size of the jig. For assist hooks the usual rule of thumb is that the curve of the hook fits over the jig, i.e. the distance from the point of the hook to the shank is greater than the width of the jig
As far as hooks go an assortment of live bait hooks (Hoodlums, Gorillas etc), and an assortment of circle hooks should handle most of your needs. If you are rigging for AJ's some large circles. Try going to MC Saltwater ( mcsaltwatertackle.com ). They have all the leaders you could need at very reasonable prices and well made

I never use the stock hook on a diamond. The very first time I dropped a jig, it was diamond. I hooked very quickly for a fraction of a second. I reeled up a diamond with no hook because the stock split ring came apart. Either upgrade the split ring and hook or use an assist hook. I prefer assist hook as it is easier to upgrade and the same hook works on numerous jigs. I do wonder though if the assist hook on a diamond reduces the number of strikes because the assist may interfere with the appearance and unique action of the diamonds.

I don't really understand the assist hook but i will look it up on u tube maybe they have something on it . Again thanks

Diamond jigs work well enough that I don't know anyone that doesn't carry them in their box. They're cheaper too. But there are a lot of jigs you may find that are better overall. I'd look at some speed/butterfly jigs in chartreuse, pink, blue and orange. The Williamson Benthos is one. I like the Braid jigs and the Diawa Saltigas too. Too many to mention here.

I also like the benthos. It is my favorite, especially the pink.

it is a link to the benthos and the hook in the image is an assist. assists are simply a hook on cord that attaches to a solid or split ring.

Don't overlook the thought of putting assist hooks on your diamond jigs. As mentioned the hooks that come on them are sometimes inferior and lots of folks opt for assist hooks on them.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone reading here that plans to do this trip ....

If you haven't contacted Bill with your thoughts on leaving the dock a little earlier please try to do so.

Also there are some new folks that don't realize that we are allowed to sleep on the boat the night before the trip. My friend Billy that I recruited for this trip said he had no problem with leaving early but am not sure he made this known to Bill.

Is there a list of those that have not responded to this issue? Can we contact them? time is getting short.

Bill ....

I received your email this morning about getting everyone on board regarding leaving early. But thanks to an email upgrade they just did it is rejecting your email address when I reply.

But as mentioned Billy knows and is OK with leaving early. He was not aware that we could sleep on the boat. We need to make sure everyone knows that I guess.

Looks like everyone is good to go for an early departure. We'll talk to F.W. and pass the word to everyone.
