I see where they are upgrading the displays on these units this winter. I have the 898 SI and my display is not near bright enough on a bright sunny day and have saw others post this same observation. I am wondering if I will be able to send my unit in and get the screen upgraded and bet others will be wanting to do the same without having to buy a new unit, esp if they are just recreational fishermen like me that can not afford another unit. So if you are thinking of buying an 898 I would wait until the new ones come out in December, not sure about the 998 screens they have out now, but the 898 is not bright enough.

The 800 and 900 series units have the same screen type, just a different size. Both will have the same screen type for the 2013 year model.

Hardware is not normally updateable. It would probably be more economical if they did for you to sell your unit and purchase the new HD Display with LED Backlight.
