The only thing I have been able to find online for boat shade is the bracket that screws into back of seat. Not wanting to do that, I have been looking at the posts here for the DIY pvc version. Looks like I will be trying that. I will be making 2, one for front and one for back deck of my Tracker 190. Here's my question for those of you who have done this: Should i go with 2 Golf type umbrellas or 2 of the patio type umbrellas? Also how do you control height of umbrella? Any ideas and tips welcome! Thanks!

You will have to cut the main pole on the umbrella about 15 inches to get the right height. those umbrellas tilt and turn any way you want them to.

I've got a bimini. Great shade, but you can't fish under it. You can barely fish around it. I fished with a guide at POC last year who had a folding T-top. Way nice, if you've got a center console. You can still put it in the garage. About $500.00. Most of the umbrella users I've seen use a PVC rig off the seat pedestal. At least you can fish under it. Academy had some reasonably priced patio umbrellas.

+1. $35, cranks open and shut, has tilt option. has withstood the wind test. Just returned from a week of casting on the White in northern AR, only hit the canvas once. I use the PVC setup, but am considering making a "2-legged" version to reduce the violent swaying caused by wave action. PVC is not known for its rigidity lol...

Costco had an Addidas beach umbrella fro $35. It is the size of a patio umbrella. I just put it one of my rod holders on the center console and use a small bungee cord to the windshield rail. It covers half my 24" Skeeter. If you dont have stand up rod holders, just buy a single plastic holder at Academy or Bass pro and screw it in wherever works best. I've used patio umbrellas in the past as well. Garden Ridge usually has one on sale for $19.

Finished and done. Made 2 for front and back decks. Turned out Academy is best choice for patio style umbrellas. Bought 2 that matched boat perfectly. I think if I had it to do over, the "2 legged version" might be a better way to go, Testing it out on RC lake was great for the shade but it did sway with the wave action.

What you need to do is, go to a welders supply shop and get a good industrial strength umbrella. That's what I did. They can handle crazy high winds and wont get jacked up. In fact I used mine on the beach one year, while a tropical storm was brewing in the gulf. Everything else on the beach got mangled instantly. My umbrella toughed it out. If you dont want to spend the money on a bimini installation, this is THE way to go. It only cost me 150 bucks. Dont waste your money buying a wimpy patio umbrella.

Oh and it fits right in my rod holders (center console)and I just bungee it to the rail. When I dont need it, I just close it. Easy Peezy
