I want to get the HDS-8 Gen2 with the LSS-2 and the new 2012 InsightHD chartcard. I'm finding out that it is cheaper to get the bundle that comes with the HDS-8 Gen2, LSS-2, and Insight pre loaded. Will I have any issues running the Insight HD card and the Navionics HotMaps South Platinum card in this setup? Any ideas from those who are already using this setup? Anyone using both cards in this unit?

I have the unit you are looking at, but not the Insight HD card, only a 2009 Navionics Premium card. Only draw back I am aware of running both cards is that you then only have internal memory to record to unless you pull out one of the cards before recording. Swapping cards is pretty simple, they may say you need to power down before inserting/removing cards would be the only gotcha.

Actually, the Lowrance Lakes InsightHD 2012 chartcard has additional room for screenshots. This card is pretty cool.

From their site:

Every Lowrance Insight 2012 chartcard comes with ample memory space to record sonar logs, screenshots, waypoints/routes/trails and display system settings without need for an additional SD memory card.

Ok, I called Lowrance and they confirmed that there will be no problems using the Lowrance Lakes Insight HD 2012 card in one slot and the Navionics HotMaps Platinum in the other. I will just have to switch between the two in the menu depending on which one I want to utilize at that time. And, since the InsightHD card has additional space for screenshots, sonar logs, etc., I will not need another card for that. Good news!

Well, it seems as if the newer Gen2 units have the current Insight HD pre-loaded. So, I will not need the card until next year. More good news.

My 3 week old HDS-8 Gen2 has Insight but not Insight HD---might want to check on that.

Yep, it's Insight, and HD, but not the full HD (If I remember from another review elsewhere, the "card" allows "3-D zoom" down to 100ft scale before going "2-D", the "built-in" is much farther than out than that (like 1000ft, but don't quote me on that). Other than that, I don't rememeber what other differences there are between the two, but for those who can find a "non-Insight" version $100 cheaper, and then find the InsightHD 2012 card for $100-150, it makes sense to get the card (if for no other reason than it's portable between units, and has the extra memory for storage).
Most bundles of course include the built-in Insight, which isn't bad for future trade-in purposes, or if you move the card to another unit, so each situation has it's own merits.
