Can someone suggest a size in inches for a 21 FT Ranger Z521? Is a 60" Lindy big enough? Any suggestions or thoughts appreciated.

Not trying to flame - but why do you want to use a drift sock?

SMC, in big northern waters it's not uncommon to need to drift for SM (Lake Erie and many of the finger lakes) and the sock will slow you enough to be manageable.

I've heard of guys tying them off to their power poles has anyone done that? It would work but would make it kind of far out there to pull up after making a pass over a spot. Unless you are talking about putting the pole half way down then raising it up when moving...if so never heard of that but interesting.

Not trying to flame - but why do you want to use a drift sock? I'm surprised they aren't used more down here. Lots of northern states fishermen use them. Would make dragging rigs and the like out deep easier. To the OP, I recommend getting two...it works much better.

i just remember seeing a power pole video of shaw grigsby putting throwing a drift sock out that was attached to the fiberglass portion of the power pole...id imagine you could adjust it until you figured out what worked, i just could tell how he had it attached in the video.

I think a lot more people use them around here than you think. I use one on really windy banks you can fish with the wind and then back against the wind on a bank that is holding fish. It is surprising how much one will slow you down plus you only have to use the trolling motor to controll your direction and distance from the bank when fishing with the wind.

My partner and I use them to fish really windy shores on days when others might think you were crazy to fish downwind. It works.

I often use 2, a lrage and a small one, to slow teh drift. Small one goes on the bow and the larger one the stern. Keeps you from swinging from side to side using one sock. I hvae uused them for over 12 years, mostly on windy days that you burn your TM batteries up trying to fight the wind. With 2, you have to be more careful with big fish on, because they KNOW how to use them to get off. Hope this helps.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

They work drifting c-rigs. Not the most exciting method but can be really effective.
