I am trying to find the right tow vehicle. If you could post your truck plus any additions youve made and your towing mpg pulling a bass boat that would be great.

2000 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab diesel.

20 plus non towing.

16 to 17 towing the Allison. The boat is on the light side for a 20 footer. Its about what most 18 footer weigh.

I have a 2006 Dodge diesel standard shift empty at 65 mph it gets about 21 mpg. Put a trailer on it (27 ft Avion, 20 ft tractor trailer, 16 ft stock trailer or 18 ft Al Starcraft bass boat) and it drops to 16 mpg.

I sure wish I could drop that engine in a Ford.

OK since we are talking diesel I have an 05 duramax with 80K. It gets about 20 empty and depending on the terrain 15-17 towing my 20' glitter sled that weighs in at 3500-4000#.

My wife has a Jeep Liberty CRD that gets 25 empty and 20 pulling my boat.

Only because I`m partial to ford u might look at the new 302 365hp,385ft lbs.6sp.auto or the v/6 twin turbo.I have the 302 and I`m really impressed .I tow a 16ft trailer with my 66fairlane streetcar will do 65/70 and not hardly break a sweat or my 17 ft boat hardly know it`s back there, Gas mileage 12-15depends how hard I push it empty 14 -17 around town ,just come back from a trip to Austin right at 20mpg.....Bill

I've got a 2004 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8, 3.73 rear end and 4-speed auto. I get about 17-18 on the highway if I'm going 65-70 and about 14-15 towing my 17' Triton fiberglass boat at the same speed. Pretty decent towing mpg, but it's a small boat too. Probably around 2500 pounds total with boat, motor, gear and trailer. You could probably add 1-2 mph to those figures if I had the 6-speed transmission.

I have a 2011 ecoboost f150. Just towed my 19 ft nitro bay (about 3000lbs loaded) 225 miles. I got right around 15mpg hand calculated driving 65-70. NEVER left 6th gear and maintained speed. Normal driving on the highway I have gotten as high as 23mpg hand calculated. For a gas engine this thing is a torque monster.

Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

I've learned that when I read MPG threads on a forum, to take the mileage reported and reduce it by 25% to get closer to real world MPG.

I have a 2010 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 and I get on avg. 12 mpg pulling my Ranger. I have gotten as low as 11.7 and as high as 13.2 it all depends on wind, terrain, and interstate driving or not. Also I get better mpg with Exxon gas than any of the others but I'm not sure why unless it's just a better grade of gas. Bought my Tundra in Feb. 2010 and have not had one problem with it.

I had a F250 with the V10 Gasoline engine, 9mpg when towing a Ranger 518VX.

Currently have a 2010 Tahoe, 4X4, towing package, etc., 12.8 MPG when towing a Skeeter FX20.
