I'm mainly a small stream, creek kind of angler but I must say, after today's trip out to the Guad I have a new respect for river fishing. Two words, super exciting. The Guadalupe(if you find the right spot) is a mecca for sunfish fishing (IE bass and bluegill etc)... I loaded up and went out and upon the first cast nears some Cypress roots this feisty little sucker drilled the grub here it is...

Less than a pound, but things get better...

I found a sunken log in the water near the bank(definite breeding ground) and threw a frog bait and took on this sucker

Getting up there if I had to guess I would say 2.3lbs

Here's a bad scale pic I took, I wear a size 11.5

Heres his/her large mouth open

And the finale, weighing in at-at least 3lbs, what I call, The Tanker

This son of a gun put up an epic fight, thrashing and dashing all over the river. It took damn near 10 mins of drag fighting to land this dude, I was shocked!

All fish were caught on artificial worms, spinners and top waters. I totalled 6 fish for the day, super pleased with the Lupe, if you get the chance fish it up and down(throw near Cypress roots and work away this attracts Bass and Bluegill from they're nests, but beware of throwing into the tree's, it's a nightmare sometimes).

All caught on an ultralight 2 ft rod and 6lb line so I had to set an easy drag. Largemouth are something else, I think I enjoy fishing them more than any other fish. Just something about the way they go airborne, makes the fight more intense. I've yet to land a Guadalupe Bass, those things are hard to catch.

I have seen several of em in use in the past. eeks Robert "Dafanman" has one of em and he catches some nice fish with it. hooked It is a very good "close quarter rig" for fishing in tight areas especially on creeks. juggle As for me I will stick with my ugly stick ultra light combos. dance2

After researching our state fish, I have concluded that the first specimen from the original post is in fact a Guadalupe Bass. You can tell from the vertical tiger stripes as apposed to the straight line laterals the other fish have. And when I de-hooked that sucker I noticed it had some gnarly clear teeth lining it's mouth (another characteristic of the Guad Bass). It also had a smaller mouth and jaw line that did not extend past the eyes. Guadalupe Bass, finally caught one and didn't even know it. I haven't seen any big ones around, they are not easy to find or catch.
