On a last minute idea myself and two others headed to Fayette Lake about 2hrs outside Houston on Friday to stay and fish early Sat. before it got to hot. This is a power plant lake so the water stays warm/hot year round. After getting settled in and grilling a few dogs on the grill we walked down to the launch about 10:30p and talked to a guy that just got off the water. He was telling us how hot the water was. He took a picture of his ff showing the water temp 101. Yep 101, granted this was near the discharge but still 101 at 8:30p is just crazy. I've only fished this lake 2 times before and killed them on the last trip. This time my buddy wanted to fish a different area that I had never fished. So we got up early Sat and hit the water. Fishing was slow and crowded. This lake has lots of reeds and every boat and kayak on the water was tossing frogs in the reeds. This is not my cup of tea and I got bored pretty quick. I found a grass line outside the reeds and started working it with my TX rig worm when bam fish on. I caught two more and the bite shut down for good. The lake was crazy with lots of waves and the wind was blowing. One of my buddies stuck to the reeds and pulled out 3 nice bass avg. 18". Seems the bigger fish were in the reeds most of the morning. By 11a one guy had called it and headed in. Around 11:30a I was right behind him. All in all a good time visiting with friends and fishing a nice lake.
Here's where we stayed the night before. We had two hammocks hung and one lounge chair.
