After a year break from fishing, I'm getting back in to the swing of thing. Anyone been on Palestine lately and/or where are the fish running this time of year?

Well, we have had virtually no luck with the catfish. We have fished north and we have fished south. We have fished morning, noon, evening, and all through the night. We have used fresh shad and frozen shad. We have used stink bait and other bait. We have fished timber, channels, humps, rocks, and drops. We have fished everything from 6' to 40'. We have burned shy of 30 gallons of gas in the boat and 30 gallons in the truck hauling all over the place to try and pin down some fish. We have spent a total of just over 50 hours on the water since Wednesday and have had just 4 fish to show for it; 3 of which came from tonights overnight trip. At this point, I have seen more fish pulled out by noodlers than I have seen by rod and reel. What the heck am I doing wrong?!?!

I woulda used all that gas and drove a little north to Twok or Fork! Heck, I don't catch a lot of fish here, but even Lewisville sounds better than Palestine right now! At least you'd get a dink or three.

Thanks Bluetick!!!

I absolutely agree on driving up to a different lake (I've always wanted to try T-Wok; especially after living in Rockwall for about 5 years... just never made it up there). Unfortunately, we're just kind of stuck on Palestine for a bit. We just moved here last year, so I really need to learn the lake, even if it means catching absolutely nothing for a while. Even through all my frustration, we ARE learning the lake little-by-little.

I went out and bought a Lowrance 4x DSI to try and even my odds. I had an old Eagle SupraPro ID and it was worthless for more than water depth and bottom contour. I'm going to really take some time to examine my lake map and learn the DSI and see if I can't find some sweet spots.

I agree, if that's your home lake you need to learn it, even if you can only discover where the skunks are for awhile. New lakes are frustrating. Just don't give up. You'll find those cats before too long and learn their behaviors based on wind direction, etc.

Well, who would have thought.... I found the kitties on Palestine and I didn't even have to launch the boat!

We just moved in to our lakehouse and our neighbor filled us in on a little secret. Our cove that we are in has a creek channel and he chums dog food regularly. I went down to the boat house with the cast net and a pole and in a few hours, I have a bucket full of bait and six 1-2 lb fish on the stringer.

But just because I can catch fish at my boat house doesn't mean I no longer want to try and find them on the main lake. I'm still open for ideas/suggestions! wink

Nax come book a half day trip with me and I will show you where the kitties are lol. Just this past week I have caught over a hundred pounds. The largest a 30 and a 24 lb blue cat and several nice fish in the teens. The rod and reel fish do run small as compared to some lakes during the day but unless you are fishing with live perch at night during this time of year and in the right areas you won't think there are any big ones in here but they are. Not to brag but I have caught countless big blues and ops on Palestine since 1976. Don't give up they are here. Pm me if you are interested in a trip and I will show you some areas.

i too have had no luck the last few years at palestine with the catfish, were chumming, range cubes as well. im SICK of catching 5 inch cats, lol, we have family up there and we visit fairly frequently but never seem to find the good size fish.

we normally launch and fish around the flat creek area and the bridge.
