I'm looking at a new boat with a 2012 yamaha 115 hp 2 stroke and my question is should I pay for the upgrade to 4 stroke.
Don't be afraid of the light it is just me looking for a place to fish.

Yes 4 stoke will be better on gas and will be quieter.

You better be sure of the year model. I'm not sure they made a 2 stroke in 2012.
Retirement best job ever.

The 4 stroke wins in everything except power. On my boat (skeeter sl180 fish n ski) I sacrificed almost 10 mph when I picked the F115 over the 2 stroke 115. That said, I have no regrets. The difference between 40 and 50 mph was insignificant for me. Both are great motors.

Really depends on what boat, and what you're going to do in it.
Four stroke would be a pig on my flats rig, but the best choice if I had a pontoon.

4 stroke is a heavier motor. They cost more but they are much quieter. 4 strokes just use gas, no mixing oil. But you have to get the oil changed in them just like a car.

I chose the 4 stroke 115hp Yamaha on a 20' xpress CC. Hope it does the job as I'm going to use it for both lake and inshore fishing.

Four Stroke puts you into the 20th Century. But, buyer beware, It cost a lot.......(key word here, LOT) more to repair a 4 stroke than it does a 2 stroke. Nothing on the four stroke with the excception of spark plugs and impeller is compairable to two stroke. Get ready.....

mike, does that statement hold true for smaller 4 strokes... say a 25hp motor? I have my 2stroke that I can work on fairly easy (with yalls help) but if I find a good deal on a 4stroke I want one because they are so quiet. Quiet is good for me trolling.

I've got a 15 year old Evinrude 2-stroke 115hp that hasn't had one bit of problems. One VRO pump went out, but that's to be expected. 2 strokes are easy to work on and give you lots of power.

Get ready it won't be too long and you will not be able to buy a 2 stroke. Some states already. Johnny

I love the sound of that 2stroke winding up as it throws you back in the seat!

The added weight of the four stroke engine makes a big difference when inches of water make a difference when you are fishing skinny here on the coast!
...so good it tastes like it died screaming!
