I've caughts tons of sunfish before, but never anything huge! I feel like I'm surrounded by tiny ones down here (Dickinson/League City). I've been looking over the bank fishing map but I'd like some expert advise on location. I'm willing to drive a couple hours or so. And I'm NOT trying to raid your honey hole. IF I keep fish, it's just enough for me and my family. And most of the time I don't keep em.
So if anybody feels inclined to let me know of a good spot I'd appreciate it! And your secret is safe with me so if you PM me it stays with me! Please somebody help me find some big fish. I've heard good things about Conroe but am clueless to it.
Thanks so much in advance!

I would try Lake Conroe. Huge Gills there. Also Toledo Bend has some nice gills as well as Lake Livingston. You should have some major lakes in your area. I would try fishing them. Look for structure such as sunken trees, stumps, and grass beds. Also docks are starting to hold some nice fish. Good luck. Side Note: Here in the San Antonio area we have Lake Dunlap, Mcqueeney, and Placid. There is also Lady Bird Lake in Austin which is just one hour north of here. Boerne Lake is also producing some nice Bluegills and that lake is close by.

Southwest Lake Conroe is one of the highest rated gill-producing bodies of water as rated by this online magazine. http://www.trails.com/list_38998_best-bluegill-fishing-lakes.htmlLate last fall, when the water was low in Lake Dunlap, we had a freakish period where just about everyone was catching 10-13" redears and similar sized redbreasts. Lake Calaveras produces these copper-purplish saucer-shaped bluegills that have a sort of 'flounder/halibut' look to them. They resemble dinner plates with fins, but it's hit or miss out there.

Thank you both very much!
And that last picture posted (the round gill) almost looks like a discus! (aquarium fish)
I'm going to have to hit Conroe. I hear bank spots are few and far between but I'll find one!

I've never fished it, but from the magazine article, it suggests the southwest side.

Give Raven a try. The fishing off of the piers for gills is usually best early in the morning. After that, you need some type of way to get off the bank because the vegetation makes it kinda rough.

Well my plans of fishing this weekend have been canceled. Girlfriends dad is showing up for a surprise visit and he only likes to saltwater fish (which I'm burnt out on). Next weekend I'm going to Conroe though!
And I would love to try raven but I sold my yak and trailer last week to come up with some quick cash for all the little fees and costs that come with buying a home. But it'll be our first house, and I have been approved by the GF to buy my dream yak after it's all said and done (late September).
