Hey guys... What is a good casting rod that I can use for a calcutta or ambassadeur? I want something I could use in the bays and also take in a kayak Beyond the Breakers and being able to handle a good sized red!

I recommend the Shakespear ugly stick Intercoastal's. For out in the breakers, look for medium heavy.

It's never happened yet but I have a Calcutta 400 on an All Star MH and I swear when fighting a big fish it feels like it's going to break right in the handle. I have a Falcon MH that doesn't give me that feeling at all.

What size reel are you using?
What is your budget?
What length and weight are you looking for?

I actually have an Abu Garcia Record 50, C4 6600 and about to pick up a Calcutta 150.
I am looking for a 7' or 7'6 rod that is at least medium heavy or a heavy action
Budget.... Nothing crazy! Since I have to get 3 rods I can't go too high

Are you looking for graphite or an e-glass composite rod? From what it sounds like you are wanting a graphite rod. I am running a special on one of my entry level rods. It is a little longer at 8' XH and would handle any big red you hook up with. They come with a lifetime warranty. Normally $265, I am running a discount of $30 off at $235. If you purchase three I would give you a better cost than that. 574-551-0214

If you ever come through Houston give me a shout. I always have a few laying around I would sell dirt cheap. Just dont want to ship anything.

I would recommend the Shakespear ugly stick Med light striper rod I have 12 or more and love them on my Calcutta 400 in the bay or local lakes. You can jig or troll them I even run them on my down riggers best all around rod and I think they are 35.00 at Bass Pro.

Based on my kayaking experience which is not vast, I would not take out anything so dear or costly that I wasn't prepared to lose it. Lots of decent rods around $100 bucks. For a discount rod, its hard to beat the berkley lightning rods.
