I'll be fishing from the bank. I thought about taking my boat but to tow it that far is pretty pricey.

Hello there, i've been here in Brownsville for a couple weeks and been fishing the surf and jetty's at South Padre. I missed the early bite yesterday, but seen quite a few big fish (25lbs +) in coolers walking past me on the and jetty. Kings, Jack Crevalle and alot of specks. Early morning topwater lures(Spooks or rattletraps) are the ticket. And shrimp under a cork or bottom fished had me about 40 in 3 hrs. (whiting) I am going to try the early thing maybe tomorrow. Surf has been slow but I did catch a 30" ray on cut Mullet. Good luck!

I dont have much to report as I only spent 3 days there. I fished a little on the wall down the street from my rental and caught a sand trout on a speck rig. We then tried Pirates Cove. It was very crowded and I'll just say you don't want to go there on karaoke night. I caught 1 hard head while I was there. Between the karoke and a group of loud drunks we ended up cutting it short. The next day we took a bay fishing trip and caught about a dozen trout.

I came back last night. I briefly tried the surf last Tuesday and conditions were poor. I focused on the bay, parking m car just before the causeway on the SP side and wading with live shrimp and gulps. After 3 days fishing in the AM and back in the evening I got a 27 inch red on Thursday evening fishing a gulp 3 inch new penny under a cork. Fish struck as soon as bait hit the water. Other than that one very small speck, several hardheads, and one skip jack. Winds were blowing HARD most of the trip. I did not make it to the jetty. Conditions seemed to be improving when I left Saturday but the crowds were growing.

spent last week on the island. alot of activity in south bay with specks chasing mullet on the edge of the channel. wind was so high you could not stay anchored! finally found calmer water under the causeway and caught some small black drum, sheepshead, and our normal fill of hard heads! had a really fun week but fishing was not so good this time!
