As the Admiral Seas It
Fishing Report: 6/23/12 to 7/1/12
.
Jc Sportfishing Charters is a family owned and operated business and has been fishing in Cabo San Lucas for the past 18 years. Jerry, explains that his charter business is geared more for families and novice anglers, making sure everyone who charters a boat with him has a great time and lots of fun. We welcome families and groups. We want everyone who fishes with us to take all the sites in and have memorable experience. This is what is most important to us. We have and do a few tournaments each year and can accommodate fisherman who might be interested in tournament fishing. Lets get on with the report for this past week.
WATER: Pretty green and cold over the last week. Guys were running into blue warm water 40 miles out. Its pretty bad close to shore over this last week; cold and green.
.WEATHER: It has been typical June weather . Some pretty hot days with no wind and then it gets windy and cool at night. Today it was overcast and cloudy which cooled off everything . Its just been so up and down this last 3 weeks. We have had some really hot days with no wind and you can reallyf eel the intense heat, but thenex t day it gets windy and cools down especially at night.
BAIT: Caballito are in abundance this week with some Mackerel. The bait is at the standard 3$ a piece. . Some frozen Ballyhoo have been found on the bait boats. Try and find fresh frozen and not refrozen.
FISHING: Billfishing has been hit or miss over the last week. Some windy days and areas of cold water were really testing the local fisherman. It seems this past week had lots of boats going out 40 to 50 miles to get into some Striped Marlin. I even heard there were Tuna caught out there and some sightings of small schools. Closer to shore the water has stayed green producing very little over the last week. The 95 area there were reports of a few marlin but lots of boats went way out especially earlier in the week. Vinorama area had produced some strippers and even Blue Marlin hook ups were reported. Thats a good sign of things to come. Over the last 2 days the fishing has gotton better with 1150 area really seeing some good action for Marlin . Tuna were caught outside the 1150 also over the couple days. With the next full moon coming and signs of a Blue Marlin bite happening I am thinking we are going to see a big turn around this coming week. Marlin were caught this past week on lures and Caballitos
TUNA: Out 40 to 50 miles some Tuna were caught with some small schoolsbeing caught also. Quite a difference since, we havent hardly heard or seen a Tuna in a while.
DORADO: There were some Dorado caught in the 20 to 30 pound range in the Punta Gorda area but really nothing major yet. Smaller ones were caught closer to shore, bu t few in numbers. The fish were caught on small feathers.
WAHOO. Very little did I hear of Wahoo being caught this past week .Hoping with warmer water, to see action pick up.
INSHORE: Before yesterday I hadnt heard of a lot of inshore fish being caught. Yesterday lots of Sierras were caught . Even 6 to 7 pound Sierra were reported on the Pacific side from Arch to pump station. Not really a lot of Yellowtail but some Rooster fish to 50 pounds were caught on the Pacific side.
BEWARE: Remember if your not renting charter boats from companies who have been established in Cabo for the past 20 years ( Jcsportfishing, Pisces Sportfishing, Minervas, Redrum, Picante Fleet) you might have problems. There are many sportfishing fleets on the internet who are really not established business, who are operating illegally. Lots of these outfits are renting you a boat they have never even looked at and dont even know where you would board the boat, leaving you the task of trying to find the boat. They dont even have an office you can go and confirm your charter boat. You do not want to spend a day walking around looking for the boat and where you board. If you wait till the day you are fishing and go to the dock where your boat is many times people will mislead you to another boat or dock trying to put you on a boat that was not meant for you. You need to have a person guide you to your boat, who is from a reputable charter company. This way there is no confusion or misleading. Lots of vendors renting boats in the hotels are not reputable and dont care about your interest and care more about a commission . 75% of the Cabo Fishing websites on Google are not even in business anymore or might be just brokers who dont have an office in Cabo. Some of the Google websites are misleading and not established .Please remember when renting Sport fishing boats in Cabo that you rent your boat from reputable and established business. Walk into a fishing fleet office and ask questions about what you are getting and what are the costs. You dont want to rent boats from vendors in the streets and you do not want to book through shady websites offering you the world. You need to go to the fishing fleet office, while in Cabo and book your boat. Check through travel forums about reputable fishing fleets to deal with. Look for testimonials about the fleet your booking your charter with. Ask about what will the boat be supplying? Will it include beverages or lunches? How much does it cost to fillet your catch? Check to see if charter boat is insured? Ask about getting your catch smoked? Check cost of fishing license. These are just a few things to consider when booking your charter boat. We will be talking more about this in next weeks fishing report. Until next time good fishing and we hope to see you in Cabo soon.
