Made a quick trip to Live Oak Lake. Fished from 7:30 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. Fishing was very good. Caught over 20 Redear in the 7 to 8 inch range. Also caught 12 Bluegills in the 7 inch range. A 13" Channel Cat, Three small Greens, and a small Warmouth rounded off the day. I also had one break off by a nice fish. Don't know what it was but it peeled drag and my pole was double bent. All fish were healthy and fat. Fish were caught next to grass and reed beds in 3 feet of water. The water was clear and stained in certain areas due to a recent rain. The lake is in very good condition. All fish were caught using worms and were released to fight again. Bottom and float techniques were used. Great way to start a day. fish

Thanks "Sf2fan" and "Drrouter" for the replies. "Drrouter": The lake is just one mile even from my front door. It is a good one just to hit real quick. There are some nice fish in there but the lake gets heavy fishing pressure on it. About a mile up from Live Oak Lake you have Converse Lake. Smaller but nice just to hit quickly. fish

Thanks for sharing report haven't been to that side of town in a while now .

I do agree on fishing pressure on these lakes/ponds. I guess it's cause of neighbourhood fishing program as well every week stocking of cats /winter trouts people often like to hang out there with their kids .

I've gone there to just watch people fish, mainly from the little dock. You're right about the fishing pressure, it does get a lot.

If you notice the back areas of the lake. There are places that look fantastic but the problem is you can't get to em unless you wade and not very many anglers wade. The fish have a lot of area on that lake to hide. peep which is a good thing. woot There is a good population of Bass, Bluegills,Channels, and Redear on that lake. I have also caught Warmouth and Greens but not that many. fish

Thanks "Tun3R" and Robert for the replies. cheers

Good trip banker. I too live within sight of the LO dam & I have fished LO lake on & off since the 70s. At one time we caught lots of crappie out of there, but they were all small, like they didn't have enough feed.Good going on the C & R..wished everyone would only keep what they really need. I can't figure out why LO won't let kayaks on the lake..talk about doing some serious fishing !
I let this LO cat go too. Roger

Thanks Curtis and "roger t" for the replies. "Roger T": I heard that during the 90's Live Oak Lake had some nice keeper Crappie along with some huge Bass. hmmm There are some nice Bass and Sunfish still in Live Oak Lake. Last year I saw a 8lb Bass Caught and released. eeks As for Crappie I have never seen any. Lake does get fished a lot but as stated there are a lot of places for a fish to hide. hide2

Nice catches BAF! Bluegill's are fighters by shape! They use that flat surface area against you.
