Anyone doing any good on the close rigs? Are they coming in close to the jetties ? I will be there 6th to the 14th Bay fishing and 2 off shore trips. Hope to take the Bay boat out too if the Gulf is calm. Lets hear it

It seems the wind is really kicking up right now and in the future forecast so it might be pretty bouncy offshore.
Not that recent but I was there mid-May and the kings were unbelievable. The first rig due east about 15 miles basically drop a ribbon down and hook up in a couple minutes. That is if you didn't hook up letting your rig out.
We didn't fish the jetties for kings but we did see one completely clear the water chasing a bait fish so I know they were in there.

Cool sounds like you had a great trip. I know they have had some calm days but right now I bet the wind is up. Thx Mike

We got super lucky for our May trip which from what I hear is usually windy. First day might have been 2-3's, if that. Just enough to keep you respectful!
Second day I never pulled back on throttle out of the jetties. It was that smooth out there.
We are going again 7/12-19 and so far it isn't looking to promising. Hopefully a couple nice days at least. Good luck on your trip!

I just got back and the king report is fairly slow...all of the party boats are targeting snapper...even on 5 hour trips...ridiculously quick limits. I was done in 5 minutes...2 10 second drops. I'll be back next week and can hopefully run out for a few reds on my baot...22ft Triton center console...currently its looking 2-3's for the next week.

Lucas, how are the sizes looking for the red snapper you saw? Seems I heard early on the average size was way up there. The big ones may be getting caught out by now though not sure.
With the extension of the season I may actually get to fish for em this year.

They were not huge, but respectable. The fish averaged 20 inches. I don't think the boat caught a single undersized fish, so it was 76 for 76 on keepers in one hour. Biggest was probably 10 pounds.I'm going to try to be out next Thursday-Saturday. If it's too bumpy, I'll bay fish.
