I have an older hummingbird 997csi combo and a new 898 combo. I am trying to run them as interlink or duplicate the screens. I bought a interlink Ethernet cable from bass pro and the guy said it would work. After I bought it i noticed that my older 997 does not have a connector on the back like my 898 does. How can I run them as interlink? I have the 997 at the console and I just want to duplicate that to the 898 im putting on the front of the boat. Do I need a transducer for both units or will it work with just my 997 transducer hooked up?

If you dont have the interlink connection on the 997 you just bought a cable for nothin! Pretty sure only the HD units are interlinkable.

The 997 does not have an ethernet port. You must use the Interlink box.

The 1197 was the only older model that has an ethernet port.

Ethernet and Interlink are 2 seperate things.

I have my 898 linked to my 788 via the interlink box. It plugs into the acc port.

So if i buy the interlink box and install it and hook my 2 units up. Do i still have to have a transducer hooked to the front unit or will it duplicate my 997 to the front 898. The 898 transducer is on my older boat, i am just wanting to put the unit on the new boat so i will have 2 screens and not have to buy another transducer. Thanks for all the help so far!

Interlink will only share waypoints, gps signal, and temp. To share depth readings you would need to use the ethernet cable which is not compatible with the 997.

I think you are going to need another transducer but you may be able to use a Y cable. Call Humminbird customer support and see if it's possible.

Yup, that's right. I disconnnected my Interlink and went to 2 separate units with external antenna's. The key being " Only gps info" not screen shots.
