We are going up there August 6-12 for a retreat from the heat and a little fishing. Does anyone have any ideas of who to contact for a smallmouth / walleye trip? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Marti

Ditto. Those fish are hungry. The guides up there have one of the easiest jobs in the world. Of course if you're up there without a boat or tackle, you'll have to hire a guide.

Headed up there on Saturday! Can't wait...forget the smallies and walleye...you need to go after some toothy critters.

Def bring some bug repellent. And please...please...be carefull out there. There are a ton of submerged islands and reefs. Where exactly are you staying? LOTW is huge! I know quite a few guides up there.

Chris

Are you going to the US or Canadian side? My preference has always been the Canadian side with its 1000s of islands and reefs. It's magnificent. However, I wouldn't dare venture onto it without nav maps or gps mapping and a chip. It's canadian shield water and you absolutely have to know where you are going. US side is pretty much big, open water (ie, no wind protection).

So true. The mosquitos can eat you alive in some areas. You can fish 24 hours a day up there this time of year it seems. Trees growing out of rock, shore lunches, smallmouth/lake trout/musky/pike/crappie, beautiful water, no garbage on the ground. Gas is expensive.

Be safe,

We are staying at Baudette, MN where the lake drains into the river. I will use a guide for some walleye out in the open water, but plan to rent a small boat for a few days to fish close to the cabin for some smallmouth.
