Just picked up my Century Bay Boat with a Yamaha VMAX 150 today after letting it sit for way too long (note to self...use it or sell it...it is too expensive). Well we arrived home to do some cleaning and polishing and getting all the equipment together to take the boat to Aransas Pass for storage and use down there. I was checking the lights and noticed I had a black substance on my hands and then noticed it was on the key lanyard and on the boat. The key looked like it had a glob of black tar like substance piled up around the key base (where it goes into the rubber/plastic key holder that Yamaha sets the key in. The inside of the key switch itself was filled with this gooey messing substance also. I felt the key, the switch to see if it was hot and checked with the maintenance people and they didn't notice it either. This is the only explanation I can come up with is some type of chemical is melting the inside of the key fob as the key is somewhat loose in the fob. Anyone ever see something like this? Suggestions? Perplexed...and messy.

Sounds like the rubber seal for the key. Replaced an sea pump impeller on a 5.0 Volvo Penta inboard and where ther brace holds the pump in place their used to be rubber pad their but it was like tar.
