Put a rubberband retainer off a spinnerbait skirt over the split ring in the front to prevent hooking the rear treble.

Anyone? I just got KVD 1.0, 1.5, 2.5 and want to change them to the Mustad KVD #2s, My dad said he would do it for me, BUT, he doesnt like getting hooked. He is in construction, and has the tools to change them, BUT we have no split rings to use How old are you? I've been changing hooks on my crankbait since I was 12. Anybody can do it with a pair of split ring pliars. I wouldn't suggest putting #2s on crankbaits that small. #4 for 1.5 and #6 for the 1.0. Gammy ewg.

You can use needle nose pliers pretty easy. Kvd has a video showing how he does it with needle nose. I'm not nearly as proficient, but can do it quickly with minimal injury

Do you usually have to destroy the split rings to get them off? Why would you think that. BTW you said you don't have split rings to use,,,,,the crank bait comes with split rings, just use those same ones. I use either split ring pliers or just a fingernail to open up the split ring enough to get the eyelet of the hook through the opening. Thread the new hook on as you take the old hook off. Its as simple as that. Make it easy on yourself and get you a pair of split ring pliers. It makes hook changing so easy and they are inexpensive.

You can use #2s on the 1.5s if you use the KVD elite trebles. The short shank on them doesn't let them tangle. #4s with any other hook though.

Texas Tackle Split Ring Pliers. The best made, and easy to use. Have these and they are great, much better and faster than even some other cheaper split ring pliers I had before the Texas Tackle pliers.
