Sounds like Alton got DQed for needing help from his Marshal getting off a sand bar!

If you are stuck who cares who helps you some rules need to be changed.

I believe that getting off the boat is a DQ no matter what the reason. One exception is an emergency and being stuck on a sand bar is not an emergency no medical help needed. The marshals are there to keep the pro honest not to help the pro.
Who ever said nothing in life is impossible. Never tried slamming a revolving door.

It sounds like he knew his fate and knew he violated a rule.
I admire his honesty, he called and turned himself in to officials. As dumb as a rule may be, it was still a rule before they started the competition..

Too bad that rule is so black and white, but such a grey area exists on the "offer someone 3 grand for a fish" rule..lots left up for discussion on that one.

IF Jones knew the rule as the article stated and got the marshal to help anyway I don't see the big deal. He should have been DQed.

I like Alton and this is not directed at him at all. While it is a silly rule it was a rule that was in place at the start of the year and if any of the guys that fished the Elites don't like it they should have made it known prior to paying their money. i would think part of being a professional is knowing inside and out the rules that govern the competition you pay that much to participate in. Seems like they all do since they are so quick to self report themselves. That being said there are far too many silly rules at ALL levels of bass tournaments. Its almost like some trails are afraid to go against the grain and eliminate the silly ones that have zero bearing on the outcome of the event.
