They are. I have fished most kinds, and it seems to produce 4 to 1 over most others. I do replace the small hooks with KVD's though.

I see you reece!!! You trying to get one up on me? lol Just stick to the strike king 3/8 buzz and you should do well with that. plus it's only $5 dollars. I dont use alot of popper style baits but thats just my prefrence. Seem to catch bigger fish on the buzz than a popper style.

It's a solid topwater choice and absolutely DOES meet the TopwaterAssassin's seal of approval. It is relatively easy to work and has good action on the water's surface. You are correct....they are NOT cheap though.
If you wait until you want to order several fishing items at once, you can get them online at LandBigFish (no, I don't work for them) and for any order of 50 dollars or more, shipping is free. Don't quote me exactly but they run somewhere around 14.95 on that site. I mainly use the smaller size on Fork because I personally have had a little better luck with it.
I personally bought mine here locally in the DFW area in the last year or so and they were 15.95 best I can remember for the smaller sized ones.
After parting with your hard earned dough, you will soon learn that the hooks they come with are NOT great so you likely will want to upgrade the hooks.

Simply put:
The Yellow Magic is a tool just like all the other tools in your box. It is worth it to me because I want every single edge I can get when I hit the lake. I want to be able to maximize my fish catching potential when I am on the water. I want the very best tools I can get my hands on.
The Yellow Magic is one the the fish catchingest topwater plugs ever made in the right hands under the right conditions. It is NOT the Silver Bullet!
Is it worth $15? To me, Yes. I cannot answer that for you.

I'm not sold on them yet. That being said, it is definitely a very nice popper style lure. A lot of guys on this forum will tell you how it has such an amazing spitting/popping action... It's a popper! It does what it's supposed to, and catched fish. To me it's easy to justify a $15 price when I look at how much money I've spent on soft plastics that I barely ever use more than once.

I dont consider it the same as traditional poppers. The magic along with the rico are more of a custom bait. I like them cause i can work them as fast as possible and they mostly spit and walk. The ricos come with gamakatsu hooks and more colors

+1 And like Ken stated, it's a mighty fine tool to have handy when they're hittin' up top...

I guess I'm the odd ball on this one..I have a few ym's and quite frankly I think there are other pop'r type baits that work just as well.
