A friend of mine and I are headed up there next week to fish the Falcon Rods tourney and I've never been on the lake. If it all works out, we will have two days to pre-fish and scout some areas. We are staying near Monkey Island.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated. Not looking for anyone's honey holes, just some general info on the lake, prevalent pattern and colors, and how the lake fishes this time of year.

Thanks in advance for your time,
Lynn

Honestly its an overall great lake. fairly clear. Spinner baits and crankbaits. Stay main lake. River is usually pretty good but has alot of unpredictable obstacles that make running interesting.

The lake fishes shallow. If you head out from Martin's landing towards the sailboat bridge there are some good points on your left right before you get to the bridge. Also fish the channel swings.
If the lake is up in the willow 2-5' high then spinnerbait the willows mid lake.

Any hazards to be aware of when running near Monkey Island?

Get a map or the ok lake card for your Gps. Between monkey island and sailboat bridge there are several unmarked rock piles and a couple of poorly marked islands. Watch for floaters coming down the river. If you go up the elk river be aware of the sunken bridges. Down lake from monkey island be careful around the upstream side of governors island by the time you see the hazard bouy it's too late.
Other than that nothing much to worry about.
I'll be up there from Wednesday to Sunday it's a great tournament.
If you you want to hook up and go over a map, I'll be launching in duck creek fishing the lower lake looking for late spawners Wednesday and Thursday and launching in martins landing on Friday.
Water was unusually stained last weekend, hope its cleared up by next week.

wish I was fishing it this year. You can catch fish a variety of ways in May. Boat docks with jigs 5/16 finesse jigs and vibe craws will get you bit all day with 2.5 to 3lb fish. If water is in the willows flipping willows and spinnerbaits usually get the size, not numbers. Mainlake points and channel swings c-rig and crankbaits work well to. It will take a 4 pound average to get a good check so 16 lbs for 4 fish.

All I know is that we came in 66th place @ the Falcon T this SPRING and it was a blast. There are alot of BIG arse pleasure cruisers and jet fleas on this lake so I imagine you will have to deal with that.

This time of year its humps and ledges. It's a great summer time lake, and once you find them you can load the boat!
