Me and the wife are taking two teenage kids and staying at the Holiday inn on the island for five nights and over the 4th.....The kids are pretty excited as they never have seen the gulf or ocean. Im a bass fisherman and never have fished in salt water...We r bringing a couple rods with use and more than likely will be fishing off the seawalls, beach, or pier. Any tips what to fish for or use??? Im sure we will be getting plenty of beach and pool time....What else is there to do, see, eat, visit, tour, ect????? Thanks for all your help...

Do you want to fish pier, jetty, surf, wade the bays, use a guide, have a boat?

With 2 children in tow I would suggest a pier with ammenities or the surf. Bass fishing gear should be just fine for surf or pier. I would invest in spider weights if you do the surf.

The surf is very productive for whiting, speckled trout and sheephead in the morning. Red/black drum, whiting during the day and in the evening. I read reports that Mackerals been coming in near shore. And it is shark "season".

I live here and fish here about 3 times a week.. I would fish the 91st pier, and are wade the surf. Bass fishing gear is what i use..just rinse and rinse again with fresh water when your done, and you will be fine. I would use gulp live if you dont have a bucket and aerator. I have had lots of luck throwing a white curly tail grup with glow green tail lately.
