Fished IVIE Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Evenings.

Found whites schooling on the flats out by the dam. Caught many on silver kastmasters and little georges. These fish were big. Averging 12 inches with several over 16 inches. Some of the biggest whites we have ever caught.

After dark we put out the lights in 22ft of water. Caught them steady all evening. They hit best on 4 inch gizzard shad caught with the throw net under the lights.

Over course of three nights we caught 144 whites, 15 crappie and 2 channel catfish.

My son had a nice hybrid up to the boat only to have it break his line on a final run once it saw the boat. No doubt that fish was over 20 inches and close to 6 pounds.

Largest white bass was 17.25 inches
Largest crappie was 13.75 inches

No doubt, it was fun to catch on light tackle.

hey Lipan Texas Parks and Wildlife has never stocked hybrids or stripers in OH Ivie. The closest stocking upstream was Bell Street lake in San Angelo and its last stocking was in 1999. That was probably the grandaddy of the lake white bass. Lake Spence up river had stripers stocked in 2004, 05, and 07 which might be why Ivie has a striper record.

The night fishing has been tremendous with some nice size fish.

Can someone explain how the Feds count recreational Red Snapper catch?

I have no idea where "Bell Street lake" is,(maybe Lake Nasworthy?) but all 3 lakes in the San Angelo area were stocked with Hybrids years ago(70's and early 80's), They had to drain 1 or 2 of those lakes back in the late 80's because of leaks in the dams, that put the fish in the river system. Not sure how a Hybrid could possibly live this long, could be a "natural" hybrid, there being whites and stripers in the river system
The whites have been in the Colorado river system. Since they get such little pressure on Ivie, they have a chance to get pretty good size. But, 17.25 inches is pretty damn good size, what, around 3 lbs? Wish you'd landed that Hybrid,!

There are hybrids in Ivie. They came down the concho from the Angelo lakes. We pulled an 11 and 12.5 pound hybrid out of Ivie a few years back while trolling for whites.

Per TPWD Biologists,Hybrids can reproduce. I've caught many, many hybrids and striper. No doubt this was a hybrid, it was broad, wide and had the broken lines. We got a good look at it under the lights before it broke off.

It's actually the Bell Street Dam where the 3 Concho Ri. branches come together in downtown San Angelo.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Been google earthing and stripers would be 70+ miles from spence and 50+ Bell Street Dam for hybrids to Ivie. Man fish can travel!

Not sure if Stripers would have come from Spence , I don't think....
The lake, Spence has never fully filled, not sure if they have ever released much more than a trickle out of the lake......

Maybe they were already in the river coming from from downstream, Buchanan? They did have 1 or 2 recorded spawns there a long ways back, not sure how far upstream they would travel.....

Pretty sure they dont cross over the dam coming from Buchanan grin Edit just understood the "already in the river", I am bit a slow. Buchanan is ~150 miles down stream, but if they were successfully reproducing...

The striper record is from 1995 and Spence had water and had been stocked almost annually at that point. Spence also let out 20 feet of water at one time due to an inbalance in salinity sometime around then. My bet is from Spence or some were accidentally mixed in with the whites when it was stocked.

And they have so much less water to swim in right now.

It's getting scary over there.

No joke. Had to mark every stump on the way to the dam during the day so I could dodge them at night with the gps.
