I almost always use 20 or 25lb mono when flipping and pitching jigs, but lately that hasn't been enough and I'm thinking about switching to something like 65lb braid. My question to you is do I need a Fluorocarbon leader? What do you guys normally use when flipping' and pitching jigs? and who makes the best braid? Thanks in advance!

Try 20 lb Segar Fl carbon You will like it no need for a leader

When flippin' take into account the water color. if fishing clear water a florocarbon leader is what i would use. If your in dirty stained water I use 80lb Spiderwire with a 20lb flurocarbon leader. if fisihng around brush and structure. I like to use Stren fluro.. it is cheap and holds its own. Braid will get you less stretch in that mainline therefore a better hookset.

There are gonna be people on here who say just buy florocarbon line. I'm gonna tell you buy 'leader' material. There is a big difference and it's worth the extra price. It holds knots better and is much more abrasive resistant.

I mainly use 20lb and 15lb P-Line Florocarbon leader material. They don't make a 10lb or at least they don't sell it around here, so when I go to 10 I buy Seagaur leader material. I think last time I had to get some it was in the saltwater section at bass pro.

I'm a believer in PowerPro braid. I haven't ever really been able to tell much of a difference in the different leader material I use. Just make sure that you're comfortable with the diameters, and that your knots are legit.

For flippin, i would use straight fluro or straight braid. tying a fluro leader to braid is strong, but you've got to be careful. If you are use to really crossing their eyes on heavy line while you are flippin you are likely to snap a few off if you use a leader. If you don't have any confidence in mono anymore, then switch to 25ibs seaguar abrasx or red label for clear water situations and 65 ibs power pro in the murky water.

I've been having a lot of sucess with braid and a fluro leader, but i've been doing it on fb jig setup or other applications where i'm making longer casts.

Good Luck!

If he is really crossing their eyes with mono then he might snap a few rods with the braid if he isn't careful! wink

My .02 Think of the Rod/Reel/Line as a system that all have to work in unison. Correlate all of the factors: Water clarity, cover, known ave fish size, wind, depth and so on. One thing I always keep in mind when rigging my Braid/Fluoro leader above all else is my best system that allows me to get the fish to the boat, getting bit is usually not the problem. Make adjustments to drag settings based on the Rod/Braid size/Fluoro lb. I've seen many Med Hvy rods snapped that the drag was completely shut down throwing 50lb braid with 25 lb leader....something has to give and it's usually the rod. Also anglers tend to forget that the tissue inside of a bass's mouth is softest in warm/hot water...over power and you'll just rip tissue or lose fish 1/2 way back to the boat unless you hit bone on the set..always a gamble.

stick with the braid and use a florocarbon leader. braid is more sensative and the floro is invisible...great combo

Is fluorocarbon more or less abrasion resistant than mono?
