The bay boat is in POC so that's where I'm headed this weekend. I was hoping to get down there by Wednesday but that's not going to happen so now I'll have limited time on the water. Reds and trout are the target unless the seas are fairly flat then I might go looking for a reef or a rig.

I'm tapped out ($$$) at the moment or I'd offer to split expenses with you. Maybe next month. This month has been drain on the finances. Between dental bills and the dog's surgery.

Either way, sounds like a worthy adventure. Water and life jackets, keep those handy.

Im thinking about making another trip in the next few weeks, if any buddy boats up for it. I'll be in Port A again 7/12-7/19. Got my fingers crossed for nice weather. If anyone at least wants a little VHF security I'll be there for ya. Wind and waves will determine how far we go. Snapper season will be over but oh well.

I am thinking about going those dates also JonBoater.. I wear my vest the whole way ou/in and if it's rough I may wear it the whole time. I have been to a few combat swim courses in the past but I still wear my vest. I have a few VHFs also I will be on channel 16 and 77. (77 is one we use back home for deer hunting with dogs)

I can handle whatever as long as we are not pushing it

Just getting into saltwater fishing myself. Have pretty much the same ideas, fish in the bays with occasional rig trip when weather permits. Any secrets or tackle selection for either would be much appreciated. Do you normally use bait or lures out by the rigs??

Badaraccot and anybody else .. I'm in the same shape as the guy who started this .. I have a 19' Bayliner I/O " Ski Boat " that I have converted to a fishing boat now that my kids are grown ..
Recently I've hooked up with a bunch of Cajons and have been fishing the bays and rigs around Grande Isle , La.. Thats' a long way for me to travel from Mansfield Tx. for fishing.
I would like to start going down to the Aransas , Port O area on my own and fish the rigs . My issue is that I would like to do, at least the first few outings, with a Buddy Boat in the area that I can call on the radio if I do run into problems ..
What I think we could do as a group , is to post our trips here, or somewhere, Badaraccot did for his upcoming trip on Oct 3rd.
Just a thought. I know i'd feel better on the water if I knew there was someone out there who had my back ..

fish the nearshore rigs all the time in my 16ft kayak, youll be fine in your boat. just pay close attention to the weather.. I know boat folks is always overly anxious about a few waves coming near the boat rims. Butt I know some yak nutts who are not too worried about that too much. How long does it take yall to paddle out to where your at? I Have seen the research the sea eagle folks are doing for big waves and white water. this explorer model takes a class four whitewater rapids and big waves are no problem. Waves were coming over the dock on the lake no boats to be seen anywhere and I paddle across the lake and back in mine. it goes as luggage on an airplane , can be back packed in the boonies where boats cant go. I bought some land near port Lavaca wanting to learn about yaking the bays. interesting reading > http://www.seaeagle.com/ExplorerKayaks.aspx?cl=HomePage
