Well I just booked a last minute trip to Alaska for mid July and I'd like to go fishing for King Salmon on the Kenai. We used a guide by the name of Eric Loomis previously and I was wanting to know if anyone knew of another guide that was good and cost effective. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Snagging fish so much fun!!!!
Can't remeber the guides name that our guys up there at work use, I hated it.
All i could think about was how much i'd rather be bass fishing!!!

www.kingoftheriver.com. I recommend this boat. I used him last year and he's the guy to the right in my signature pic. Dean is very knowledgable of this river. He will put you on fish. I had to release my 50lb King because he was in the slot size for release. But what a heck of a fight I had. Kept the 20 pounder that's shown in the picture.

Kenai is combat fishing at it's finest. Check out a flight from A-Town to King Salmon. You will have a much better time for just a few dollars more.

The Kenai is CLOSED to King fishing right now. It may possibly re-open for the second run July 1st. The King fishing this year has been really poor. On a normal year King season closes the last day of July. Check with Alaska Fish and Game before you spend the money if you're coming up here just to fish. Good Luck to you. RM

If you're coming for REDS, Aug 4th is a little early for them on the lower river . Around the 15th would be better. Either way , you can go up to the Russian and combat fish and get some reds there.. As a bonus, this is a Humpy year and they will be thick.

Thanks everyone for the great responses. I am told the Kenai is closed on Sun and Mon this year (most years in July if I remember correctly) and we only have Monday for a guided trip. I just checked with Eric Loomis who was our guide last time. They have a great return customer rate and the Kasilof river is open for drift fishing for Kings. I've read they are not as big on the Kasilof though. Anyone have any experience?

The Kasilof is a great river to fish. There are no motors allowed so it is drift boat only. I guided up there is 2002 on the Kenai and surrounding rivers. My advice to you is TAKE A FLY IN excursion! You will catch more fish and see more wildlife than floating the rivers. If you are set on catching King's then the Kasilof is a good alternative if you can not fish the Kenai.

Thanks all ~ I think I've decided to just try my chance at the combat fishing on the Kenai. I also just got confirmation that I'll be halibut fishing out of Homer on my birthday (what a great way to spend that day!!). I leave on Thursday so wish me luck.
