Some units got the new waypoint management in October. My 798ci SI did with version 5.840. Some models got it a little later, some just recently. Check your Humminbird account for the present version and check your unit for the version it has now. Usually a trip to Humminbird includes a software update.

Since there are three 788ci units and a 788c, each has different software.

I downloaded an update - from 5.840 to 6.3, will see if that solves the problem.

Thanks for the feedback.

I recently purched a 788 CI and had it mounted in the front console of my ranger . The transducer is mounted on the trolling motor. While fishing this weekend the unit would not pick up the bottom in 2D but would pick it up in DI. I also noticed that every time i used the TM. the units screen would almost completely black out from noise. I tried returning the the unit to factory default settings but it did not resolve my issues. I am running a Motor Guide tour edition 36 volt 101.

You have to "fix" your motor so it won't "interfere" with your sonar unit.
Call Humminbird customer service and explain your installation including how the unit is powered.
There may be a simple fix or it may take several measures to solve it (if at all). RF interference is random in occurrance, the frequency it affects, and severity.

Post a picture of your transducer installation for critique and screen shots of those symptoms.

Sounds like transducer is tilted to the right or the boat listes to the right. But hard to help without seeing what you are seeing. If you can share some images it will help us help you.

Image one is a brush pile in the center and schools of minnows at the top.
Image two is a creek channel or road bed depression.
Image three is possible weeds on the left side, and aerated water by done by a prop with some minnow schools.
All images have scattered larger fish.

Lower the Sensitivity setting slightly.

All three images, on the center line show you have the SI transducer on the right side of a jackplate and are getting echoes from the inside of left side of the jackplate. Plus aerated water echoes on both sides off the hull due to the height above the hull bottom and boat speed.

I would also slow chart speed just a little to get more detail in the images...they looked stretched and that's a sign of too fast scroll speed.

Doug,

I assume you have your hands on HB 360 and have had first hand experience with it. Could you comment on your experiences with it? I have the 1197 and very happy with it. I am planning on getting the 1198 if you think it's worth the upgrade.

Also, can I run a wire (not the video out) from the 1198 to the 1197 and use it as another screen that can view other pages (like watching the 360 image on the 1198 and down image/gps on the 1197)? Thanks.

Do you know what dirty sox smells like?
