I am going to make the jump to Humminbird. I am currently still running older B&W units on console and bow. Here are my questions..... 1. Looking at the 898c or 998c for console. Is the 998c really worth another $500? 2. For the bow unit, I'm thinking about a 7 series or even a 597ci. Is DI and or SI really that important up there?
Thanks!

Funny you ask. I went to Bass Pro today and Cabelas. I think the extra inch is totally worth it after seeing them side by side but the real deal is the 1198. There is a HUGE difference in those. I used a 7 series for the front of my last boat. It has the sharpest picture of any of them. I made mine easier to see by mounting it on a ram mount. That got it that much closer to my old eyes. and it was easier to reach to operate the buttons too.

One thing on the Bow unit if you go with the 700 Series you can Network. InterLink or Ethernet.
500 Series are stand alone units only.

Did you get 788ci or 788ci HD? The HD will allow Ethernet Networking. OTherwise you can InterLink. Ethernet is a little cheaper, faster and easier.
Congrats on the new units! You should get lots out of them. THose are two great Humminbirds!

How do you connect 2 units using a ethernet cable? Do you just plug the cable to each unit? I have the 798 and looking to buy the 788 ci hd di and would like to connect together.

Both 700 Series Units must be HD Models to utilize Ethernet. You will need the Ethernet Adapter Cable to COnnect: http://store.humminbird.com/products/426965/AS_EC_QDEANd then hook the Ethernet Cable Length you need for the distance between units to the Adapter Cable

Thanks for the info Doug. I'm out of lucky on the ethernet connection, my 798 is HD. Did you state that correctly?? If your 798 is the HD model,it is Ethernet capable.
