depends on where you plan on running it. Through brush or open water. fishing it as deep as you can or shallow and crashing it in the bottom and once again, through brush or open water?

I use two rods...a 7' medium hvy rod with 20# big game for the brush. and your typical Medium hvy cranking rod for open water.

I have a 8 ft, heavy Powell that I swear by. Matched with a Winch I can throw it all day long.

i just want something better than what i have that will not wear me out half way thru the day...it will be only for DD22 in deep water either in open or running it thru brush or rocks and even in open water...what i use now is good but anything over 15 foot deep its not so great

Reel Time Rods does a custom rod specifically for DD22s. It would be worth getting in touch with Ron Grantham if you want a good rod designed with DD22s in mind.

Gonna have to recommend CastAways DD22 special. Built exclusively for big crank baits, hence the name.

XP3 Medium Heavy Crankin 7' 10" DD22

CastAway DD22 special

Let me know if if need anymore info.

I've got a 7ft. St. Croix, medium light action with a Shimano Calcutta and 10 lb copolymer line.
Works so great I wish I was using it right now!

7'6-8ft medium heavy rod... lots of brands out there to chose from at different price points. Find which one is best for you. I have two of the 7'6 Medium heavy falcon cara deep crankers and love them for DD 22s and 6 XDs, but also use them for big square bills and spooks.

Gotta go with Andrew on the Reel Time Rods! We can't keep them in stock! Ron put some rods out at Oak Ridge Marina at Lake Fork on Saturday, they were all gone but three by Sunday. I'm showing two rods to a friend of mine this afternoon and what I hear some of the other pro staffers can't keep them in the boat without somebody wanting a rod. Give Ron a call or visit the web page at reeltimerods.com or 903-450-6400.
