Bought 3 today. As stated above, for $29 even if it crashes, you're not out that much money. Took them apart and lubed up. Seem pretty darn smooth.

I bought 3 Mettles and 3 All Star rods on Sunday. For that price I couldn't say no.

Academy, I45 south of Nasa Rd 1 has plenty of them, and free fill line....cheap chinese line, but, free?! Got a reel and All-Star rod for 60$. Need a new garage to house all this stuff now though...

Bought two more mettles the other day! Did 29 bucks I couldn't pass it up! I have 5 of them now and haven't had any problems out of them

Got 2 H2O mettles for fathers day, Man they cast great. I put 15 pound Viscious on them and it works great. Caught 4 stock tank bass this evening, ready for Fork in 2 weeks.

Got another at 29. Smooth. Now they are on sale at 49. Much better than 69 price.

I bought 4 at 29.99, one I put on a Denali Jadewood 843WJ and gave it to my FIL as a thank you gift, the other 3 are stashed away as backup reels or gifts if the right occasion arises. They seem solid and I was told that Shimano makes all of the internals of them. If that is true, then I'm sure they will be a solid reel for years and years.

Anyone know when they might go on sale again? Any of the H2O brands? I went to purchase 2 of the mettle's but they were sold out the first day of the sale.

Not that it would help now, but just wondering ... does Academy offer rainchecks on sale items? Its amazing to hear how many stores sold out of the Mettle's while they were on sale. During the Black Friday sale last November, the Ft. Worth store on N. Tarrant still had piles of them in stock on the last day of the sale. Just wondering if the stores just didn't get as many this time or if they have gotten that much more popular in the last 6 months ... or if reels just sell better in June than in November?
This might be the weirdest, most pointless post ever.  I am not against golf, since I cannot but suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering fishing

Not sure. It is my experience, when Academy starts reducing prices, they stop carrying the product soon thereafter. P-Line lures and line was this way. I think ez-up canopies are going that way also.

Academy has been putting the mettles on sale periodically for a good long time. Not going away.

For those that missed the sale, why didn't you order off the internet site? The Lubbock store was out, so I ordered mine off the internet and it was only $5 shipping. Just curios why you didn't purchase in this manner, makes life a LOT esier when you get what you want at the price you want it at. Just a suggestion. Hope this helps next time.
