Sometimes if you stop and look at all the little things around you in the world you realize how many amazing things you miss. Very cool beetle. Interesting fact: There are more species of beetle than any other organism. "Beetles are by far the largest orders of insects, with 350,000400,000 species in four suborders (Adephaga, Archostemata, Myxophaga, and Polyphaga), making up about 40% of all insect species described."

Great photos Jared. This beetle is commonly called a June Bug. This being the month they most abundantly arrive. Ialways told my kids that the June Bug is proof that the LOrd has a great sense of humor. Watch one try to fly sometime.

Never seen a June bug? Did you just move to the area? Ride a motorcycle at night in June and you will get pelted by them.
Nice photos by the way.

Is that a june bug? Looks a bit too orange to be one but I could be wrong. I am always scooping them out of my pool.

Excellent photos! My wife grew up in Southern Alabama and she and her brothers would catch June bugs, grab a spool of thread, tie the thread to a back leg and let them fly around. Beetle kite getting too far away? Reel him back in!
I know, off topic, I apologize. Just couldn't keep that inside.

This is a Grapevine beetle. Here is a june beetle Here is a grapevine beetle If you still dont believe me, go to google and type grapevine beetle and go to images. Its a seperate species from the June Beetle. The beetle was nearly twice the size of a normal june beetle and orange with black spots.
