 Is there seaweed in the surf?

hey guys, I am planning on hitting the surf to do some fishing this weekend with my father for a late fathers days. We went about a month ago to surfside/freeport and couldn't get a line in the water for longer than 5 minutes due to the seaweed in the surf being so bad.
Can anyone give me a seaweed report for the surf and let me know if it's too thick to fish in the freeport/matagorda area of the gulf?
