Jeff:
Lake Bardwell is tough going. I have fished there many times and never have done well,a few fish here and there. If Cedar Creek Lake is not too far for you, Cedar C is better, but a fish finder is necessary for fishing white bass and hybrids, and you must learn to use the fish finder and learn the lake, not easy for me. I have a cheap fish finder and limted funds.
If you are determed to fish Bardwell, try under the bridge for crappie using a jig or minnows, and keep moving from pillar to pillar. For catfish, bait with range cubes on the edge of a river or stream channel and fish with liver or minnows. For white bass, fish along the old road beds that run east to west, one just north of the highway bridge, and one abour a mile north of the dam. If you learn how to fish Bardwell, send me a note. Good luck. Eldon

I Love that lake!

Crappie, Tons of White Bass and my favorite Black Bass – I went there just to catch the Blacks (all catch and release)- I love them.

Look for the White Bass on the old road bed just west of the existing bridge – and on that same road – look for the old bridge that went under the old road. There you find a drop off with bridge rubble – holding Big Bass and Crappie and god now what ( It's Big Flat heads).

Tons of White Bass on that lake, (find them and then you have Blue Cats too), plus love the Crappie and Bass.

I Love those small lakes – they are easy to chop up (they have no where to hide),

The road bed Mark is talking about is good right now. You also can find good crappie on many submerged brush piles near the bridge.

That's all there is, besides an Ellis county map. An older one . Like the ones on the walls at the county seat . take pictures of them.

Zoom in on Bardwell. Then click maps at the bottom of the page, free features, topo map, then click back to map. It takes a minute to load. It brings up a pretty good topo of Bardwell and shows the road bed.

Jeff,

The road bed that Mark and Salsa are talking about is pretty easy to find. There are two old public boat ramps (they are closed now)near the bridge. One on the Ennis side and one on the Bardwell side. Those two ramps are the old road. Line your boat up between the two and watch your depth finder.

You can usually find some fish stacked off of the point just south of the marina. There are lots and lots of sandies in Lake Bardwell, but they are usually about 9-10 inches long. Lots of good catfish and crappie.

Mark, Jeff, Salsa, Derek, BigJohn, Stringer.
Guys, thanks for the tips. It is good to receive encoragement. After many trips to Bardwell, I have not had much luck, but last trip my nephew caught a legal hybred and we caught several smaller white bass and a few small hybreds trolling with yellow spoons. I hope to go to Bardwell tomorrow. If so, I will post.
Mark Parker: thanks again for a wonderful guided tour on Richland Chambers two years back. My brother, Reed and I had a great time with you. If the stock market would stop destroying my retirement savings, I would hire you again.

I'm hoping good things for the stock market too - for everyone’s benefit - but especially for you.

I’m ready to see ya’ll again – but we can hit the trifecta on the lakes (anytime) – I’m ready,
