That or get out and wade quietly and either sightcast or just cast to the potholes. If you will notice, those potholes are usually small depressions which will hold pockets of cooler water (because it sinks) and it is also a great place for reds to ambush bait. Reds will just sit motionless in those sand potholes and wait for something to swim by that they can eat. Try a small salt and pepper norton sand eel jr on a light jighead and just pitch it to those potholes. I've caught hundreds of reds that way.

Reds may not care about water temperature, but during the heat of the summer, cooler water will hold oxygen better and most of the fish will be found there.

Just put your head down and go forward, keep at it, you'll stagger into them eventually. Just remember what was going on when you caught 'em, and file it away, that's all we do is just keep at it until we're on it.
