Well, it's official. New State Record Rod & Reel Catch and Release for a longnose Gar. 57 1/2", 18" girth, 29lb 5oz. (The old record was 56"). I know there have been stories and even pictures of bigger ones caught, but I figured since no one has had one confirmed, I may as well! Not the heaviest one I've caught. Post spawn, these guys are really looking thin.

I've also have landed heavier gar, the state record is 50lbs, so there's obvious plenty of room for a larger c&r record. But jeesh...that is a fantastic LNG, can you imagine how heavy it would be if it was eating well? I'm guessing it could approach or pass the state record.
