Does anyone ever cook/eat the heads? I've heard of people making soup with the heads. Any tips on how to do this? I'd like to get more than a fillet from time to time.

I have heard of some of the old timers where i am from doing this, but only with bigger fish, i would say about 20+ pounds. I personally have never done this. I would look up recipes online for fish head soup and see what turns up.

Some people say the best meat on the fish is the meat on the head.

we caught a big amberjack years ago on a deep sea trip, and one of the guys on the boat asked for the head for just that purpose. heck, it might be delicious.

I bury my fish heads and guts in the soil around our rose bushes. Makes darn good fertilizer.

Mine just decorate my T posts. The flies seem to think they're great. I also have a line across one of my ponds behind the house. I have a block of styrofoam hooked to it on a pully system. I put a basket on it. I'll throw 4 or 5 in the basket and wheel it out in the middle. After a day or so, the baitfish in my pond have a feast. The maggots roll of into the water and my Bgills get huge.
When and if they do get my guns...they will most definitely be hot and empty. Vera's PB=45.17 Jasons PB=76.94

Use a basic chowder recipe but add a few fish heads instead of clams. A lot of meat on the heads of 3-5 lbers. Try it...you'll like it.
