Yeah, it sucks living in San Antonio and usually having to plan a trip a week out. I keep and eye on swellinfo to see what it is doing.

JP8 what size is your Trophy? That should handle the chop pretty good. I've been on a lot of the full cabin models on the west coast. You're a nicer guy than I am. I don't turn around unless myself or the admiral has had enough. I do give fair warning about this in advance though. I get my swell info from a bunch of sources. NOAA, magicseaweed.com, there are a lot of different places. Swellinfo is linked above. For me, I don't care about swell height, it's the period. I'd rather be on 8 foot seas at 16 seconds than 3 foot seas at 3 or 4 seconds. If the period is 2 or 3 times the height then those are just rollers and it's fly time!!

Joe It is a 19ft and it did okay I thought, I am sure it can take more than I want to mess with lol. I do want to make another trip out on a better day. Yeah he threw up 5 times and usually after 4 a person starts to get dehydrated fast, I have to take care of him, he is our supply troop.

42019 and 42002 are still out of service. We are going to miss both of them if we get tropical development.

42020 is up. Looked at it just a little while ago.
42020 is sse of Corpus, about 50 nm.

42020 is the one I use fishing out of Port A too. It isn't exactly close but it at least gives you a good idea of the conditions. 50nm is plenty far enough to be dramtically different. Last time we were out it seemed like 42020 was showing around 3' but it was as flat as any lake from the jetties to 5nm+.
I tend to pay attention just as much to the wind at Port A as well.

JP8, my little center console is 18.5', and I simply won't go out if the forecast is calling for more than 1'-2' seas. Sure your boat can handle the heavier seas, but whats the fun in fishing in that kind of slamming & banging around?

JP8, how far out are you running and out of which port? I need to figure out the range on my small boat, probably work on that this coming weekend. In it I'm good with waves around 3' if the period is 5 seconds or more. The big boat is currently in Austin getting worked on, should be done in a week, and it's good for up to 250 miles round trip and she goes out whenever the period is 1.5 times the height regardless and anything under 6' no matter the period.
I wouldn't mind pulling to Port A for a few trips.

Id rather sit on the shore and bottom fish, but if I have the means to go out I will. Also If I sped a few hundred in gas, room, etc to drive down there I am going to try to fish some. I agree getting the [censored] beat out of you gets old fast, but weather is hard to predict.

Joe Port A is a little easier to get out of, I went and looked at the Packery before I launched and it was pretty rough. Id rather go out of the Packery depending on seas, it is closer to better fishing (from what I read) more hotels to stay at in CC than Port A and the ramp doesn't seemed to be as packed at Port A. The previous owner took it 30 miles out and back on half a tank. It has a 50 gallaon tank on it with a 4 stoke 115. I think if seas are 1-3 id go 10-15 out, I have seatow insurance but don't really want to see how it works and would much rather take a single engine out far enough I can still see shore.
