You'll be fine. A 17' boat won't hurt it a bit.

It's a full sized truck people pull all kinds of boats with trucks like that, much bigger and heavier than that one. but like others have mentioned he might have other concerns, but the moral of the story is everyone pulls boats with trucks that size. In highschool i pulled my skeeter with an 84 bronco II

trucks were made to be used pulling stuff and hauling stuff not look pretty getting groceries
that truck should be fine unless your trying to hot rod it while pulling the boat

Tell Pops, "if it's too loud, you're too old!" Do you have a square receiver that will take a trailer hitch? If so go to any store like Academy, Tractor Supply, Wal-Mart, etc. and buy a slide and ball. Hide it until you want to go fishing, then take it off when you head home. You will probably need an adaptor for the trailer lights to plug into the truck, so ask a guy at the store to show you what you need. So you don't get busted, be sure not to show him the pics of the sweet bass you caught that day on the lake. Also, hide your smokes in your tackle box! Yeah! Follow this advice and you'll end up living in a horse stall at 17 like I did! For real! 2 weeks of that and you'll mind!

Ask your dad to go fishing with you, good opportunity to show him you know what your doing and nothing beats father son fishing together.
And that truck can pull that boat no problem.

+1 on the dad invite. It will be a lot easier showing him your skills and the fact that its not going to tear the truck up versus just trying to explain it to him

I have an 18' Triton Aluminum boat with a 115 hp motor on it. It's probably a bit heavier than your aluminum boat. Fiberglass boats are heavy...aluminum boats are LIGHT. I pull my boat with a 2009 Ford Escape V6! Granted I do have the tow package and a transmission cooler, but honestly...your truck is plenty heavy duty enough to pull a boat that size.
I def agree that your dad is worried about either liability issues or your getting in a wreck pulling it.

Fish with your Dad while you can, I wish I could take mine fishing, on the other hand I pull a 21' Legend with a 2001 version of the same truck, it has no problems.
I am going to buy one just to find out for myself. Half y'all lie like hell and the other half are full of chit. www.anglersprotackle.com/store, A great locally owned business www.bcfw.org Bass Club of Fort Worth

You shouldn't have any problem towing that boat with the truck!

And that truck can pull that boat no problem. Best advice on this thread so far!!! My dad got me into bass fishing when i was younger, and we still fish club tournaments together. It took a while before he let me take his boat out by myself, but it ended up being a good thing. There are alot of "on the water" problems and towing problems that can happen, and some can be dangerous if your not prepared. Your dad is probably like mine was and is just looking out for you.

the best thing to do is show him you are responsible enough by inviting him along and that also give you quality time with the guy.its a win win situation.
