Recently moved to Kansas from west Texas. Just thought I would see if anyone was familiar with any good bass fishing lakes in the central Kansas area. The best I have found so far is a small state lake(McPherson State Lake). I know there are not alot of big bass(6-8 lbs) up here, but would like to find some new water to fish that has some quality fish in it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Clark County Lake used to be good, I assume it still is.

Talk to Brent chapman. He lives on quivera I think. He knows all the lakes there and is a great guy. Don't have his number off hand but you could friend him on face book. I know some in east ks but not central.

I grew up in central Ks. and the closest thing we had to a good bass lake was years ago when the lake at Eldorado filled. It turned into nothing in just a few years. I go back to fish a 40 watershed lake we have leased since the 1970's and it's the best lake in Ks. This may have changed but my best friend lives in Wichita and if there was a good bass lake he would be on it. He comes to Texas to fish with me.

I have lived in wichita for the past 6 years and haven't found many big fish, but for numbers you can go to any state lake and catch 20-50 a day with some solid fish mixed in. If you want somthing a little more challenging you can fish eldorado. One of my favorite lakes has to be milford cause you can catch both solid smallies and largemouth

Thanks for all the replies. Guess i will just have to plan more trips down south. I have been a little spoiled being able to fish O.H. Ivie and Hubbard Creek the last few years.

Milford can get you a smallmouth bite. El Dorado can get challenging but smallies and largemouth are there. You can fish Big Hill (southeast) and have fun. Try any of the city lakes in central and southeast Kansas. Perry reservoir has good largemouth , especially in Rock Creek.

Cedar Bluff in Hays KS is probably the best lake i have ever fished. Fished a federation regional tournament there in 03 and it took 25lbs a day to win...in June post spawn!!!

Banner creek is known to provide good fishing but has been fished hard. The lakes in western Kansas can be good but they go through severe water level changes. I have seen them 25-30 ft low and also full. The spawn/recruitment cycle really does get affected.

Coming from west Texas, I have seen my share of water level changes! Thanks again for all info. Will have to get out to Cedar Bluff sometime.

I've fished more than half the big lakes in Kansas, but that was growing up chasing Crappie and Walleye. Our favorite Crappie lake was Melvern and you could count on a 2-3 lb bass taking a minnow each trip, we would also see guys come in with 4-5 lb bass. All the fishing I did in Kansas never saw a 6+ type Bass caught. The state record came from a pit around Pittsburg and I just bought some pit land around there. I havent found anything but 7-8 inchers in my pits yet! frown
