For a person supposed to go offshore (me) and small wife, how big are seas when you should probably just stay on the resort?
It's windy as heck and I think they are calling for 4-6' sea with east wind

I was out in it yesterday in a 19ft boat and was rocking and rolling. I watched a couple of the 50+ ft boats and they were rolling pretty good.

What port? How big is the boat?
4-6 foot rolling swells spread out 8-10 seconds aren't bad.
4-6 foot steep swells on 4-5 second intervals are gonna be a beating.
2-4 footers is usually pretty normal
1-2 footers are those few and far between "Ice Cream Days" that we all dream about.
Anything predicted over 5 foot and I'm not going. Scratch that. Make it 4 foot. Too danged rough.

You have to remember that sea swell predictions and reports are for the average of the top 1/3 highest swells.
So if a report says 5' swells on 6 second intervals you must understand that this is an average. Meaning some swells are less than 5' and some are greater than 5'. The interval will give you an idea of how steep those swells are. 8-10 seconds intervals will create easy rolling swells. 4-5 second intervals will create giant walls of water that you crash into and then free fall off the back of. Too rough.

4-6 are pretty bad in a boat under 30ft. We went on a 18hr trip in a 32ft Glacier twin catamaran hull boat and it was pretty bad until the seas subsided a bit.
