I have alwaya been told they arent worth keeping. Use them for cut bait, and catch some delicious catfish.

People that say they aren't worth keeping have not ate them. They are an excellent eating fish comparable to their saltwater counter parts. A few more bones than a catfish but if you have several of them of size eat them. They do make good bait as Caribou says, although I would take shad, carp, buffalo, and sunfish over them for cats, just imo others may differ.

They are just as good to eat as a sandbass. They don't have any more bones than other fish. The smaller ones can make great cut bait. The bigger ones will give you a pleasant surprise with a nice pair of pearls (otiliths)

Drum are of the same family as redfish, speckled trout, Atlantic croaker; all excellent table fare. Although I've not tasted one I have no doubt they make for a tasty meal. If and when I do catch one, I plan to put it to the test! :eat:

I'm a gou guy, heard it best as taste of crappie with texture of a bass. When cleaning fillet with thought that most people throw away. Leave bones with carcasses and enjoy. My family can't tell what it is but love it.

Well said. Drum are very tasty fish! I personally find them to be one of the best looking freshwater fish as well.
