I just bought 4 new MGX's and 2 of them have zero drag, even when cranked down tight as possible. Anyone having this issue or heard about this kind of problem?
I just don't have time to take them to Southwestern parts & Service.
I would appreciate any ideas or comments.
Thanks,

One of mine did the same thing. I just backed it off and then tightened it back up several times and it started working. No problems since.

Braid? Backer line? 90% of drag complaints in the shop end up having braid slipping on the spool.

Backer line is 20# Mono, then 65# Power-Pro braid.

If you just bought them I would return them to the purchase point. Something is missing or installed incorrectly. If assembled correctly this should not be an issue.

I am about 35 miles from Southwestern Parts and service (ABU Service Center)in Dallas, TX and bought them in Nebraska, so I will have to make due without them untill I can take them to SWP&S.

Took both reels to SWP&M this week and Drags were fine; the braid was slipping even though I used Mono backing. I should have marked the spool and checked this better. I hope folks learn from my mistake... thanks Shawn

C T S...cannot help but notice how much help you offer to other members on this site. Are you familiar with the old Garcia model 505 blk & red spincast/spinning (?) reels? I purchased one back in the early 60's I believe and fished it for years with no problems and later when my Dad had trouble with bird nests on his spinning reels gave one to him and he never had a problem afterwards. They mounted underneath the rod and you merely tapped a spring loaded ring on the front of reel to release the pickup pin adter grasping the line with your forefinger and fished them exactly as you would a spinning reel. I dug it out of corner the other day, cleaned it up and believe it or not, it still works great. I found a couple on ebay for $25 each that I may grab but wondered it parts or service would still be available on them? Appreciate any info you might have on them. Thanks, /MikeW)
