Spooled up some of the new Mr Crappie line in 8lb. Not made by the same folks who used to make it. First thing I noticed was how limp it was spooling. I really liked it. I can't give an accurate comparison as to knot strengh since I use a loop knot and any line will break easier on a loop than a tight one. Also like that it comes in a 500 yard spool.

I've caught 8lb fish on 4lb line with a 11' pole. The fish that was caught was weighed in another boat that was close by.I let the pole wear the fish out then bring them to the boat. The tensil strength is pretty amazing......

Got some myself, and pretty amazed at how hard it was to break off of brush! Too soon to tell if it has memory but satisfied so far....

Thanks for the info on the new line, always nice to have some limp line on a spinning reel! I have a lot of line, both braid and mono, but always Ing to try some more. I even still have a lot of the Photochromic line that they don't make any more and I do like it a lot. I think they stopped making it over cost, but was great stuff and very visible above the water, but not under water! Nice thing to have.

I have not tried the newer line, just spooled all my reels with what I had. I always like the larger spools so I will continue to buy the bigger yardage. Guess I will put some new line on my shopping list for my next BPS trip..

I know I have seen Mr Crappie products at Academy and Wal Mart but is it also at BPS aswell. I have liked the original Mr crappie line in 6lb even though a couple days ago when I had a huge crappie hooked and got excited thinking I had reeled up within seven feet of rod tip then went to swing huge crappie in boat and had more like eleven feet and ended up dragging crappie up underside then side then top of gunnel then got a photographic memory shot just before braking off. I still like the line and will try the new. Not going to say I will not get excited that way again because it was a nice rush and all good.

Academy has it. No more Mr Crappie products @ BPS.

How can you tell the new Mr Crappie line? I still have several spools of the older line but, doubt I'll ever use it now. So, how do I know which is which? Is the new line yellow also?

Thanks for the review. I have been using Cajun Red on mine but haven't seen it lately so the Yellow HiVis will get the nod next time. BigDozer66

Bob, It's @ Academy in a box like other line.(Opposed to the spool his old line was on) Bright yellow box, 500 yards. Clear or hi-vis.

Walmart has it in 1500 yard spools for $6 and change. I used the old MC a long time ago, and quit because of the 'barbed wire' effect. While in Walmart two weeks ago I saw the 'new' packaging and decided that $6 was worth a look, to see if it had changed. It has...it's a softer more managable line in 6# (probably won't be that managable in 8#). Still not my favorite, but certainly affordable enough to use if you change line every trip like me.

Yal report back in 6-8 weeks and then see how you like it. Im not buying it again unless its changed, not even for $6. I hope the new stuff is better
