Hello TFF'ers,

My name is Stinson and I am a brand new fisherman. I fished a little when I was a kid but I mostly just hung around the water and casted out.

A group of my friends decided to rent a house on Cedar Creek later this month and I thought it would be fun to catch fish. Since then, I've been reading a ton online (mostly TFF) about fishing and slowly purchasing fishing gear. Thanks to all you guys and gals for sharing your knowledge on this awesome site... it has been a lot of help getting me started.

Being that I have not fished in years; I've already bought way too many lures, hooks, weights, etc... That changes tonight! My rods came in the mail from Bass Pro and I'm headed to White Rock Lake this evening to try my luck.

From what I've read, I should focus on the West side of the lake and I think I'm going to stay near the lower-end (dam) of the lake. Or should I head up near the creek on the north end of the lake?

Do any of you guys have any suggestions on what I should throw? I'm not interested in any particular fish; I just want to fight one and win. Heck, I'd be happy with a perch. lol.

I'm thinking of sticking with plastics but I have a lot of hard lure options also. Are there colors that work best at the lake?

If any of you guys plan to get out tonight; I'd really enjoy chatting with a real fisherman... as all of this is very new to me.

FYI, I plan to catch and release and I'll never share any secrets you share with myself wink

Thanks for any help you're able to provide.

PS: I've used the search function and read thru most of the WRL threads.

You're starting down a hard path at WRL but it it has some nice bass in it. You need a 2/0 offset hook 5in Watermellon worm or brush hog Texas rig with 1/16oz. Bullet sinker. You might sneak by with 1/8oz but anything heavier is going to get stuck the rocks.

You need dark colors.

Forget about anything with a Treble hook it will be lost.

Mark March and October on calendar.

Perch are good by the old boat docks and that is bobber, 2 small split shot sinkers, and small hook. Beacon for bait. Play with your depth until you start to catch.

Don't get frustrated and don't be afraid to ask for advice. It takes time to start catching out there.

Check out the Creek that goes north towards Royal lane,...White Rock Creek...look for deep pools at bends in the creek, when fishing summertime, nice shaded areas hold nice fish....try a roadrunner under a "stick" style float,as you can change the depth fast, if fishing a little shallower....In the winter time, the crappie come shallow, and you can use the same rig to catch them too....good luck!
