Any BOWFIN anglers out there? Looking for some pointers. I would like to try and catch one. The only lake I have fished consistently is Lewisville, I am not even sure if any of the area lakes have BOWFIN population. Thx for the pointers
If it's legal ain't no way in hell it's catch and release, it's CATCH & GREASE, except ROUGH (TRASH) Fish

Thx for the lake info, any particular time of the year they are active, they seem to be predatory, so what's the scoop on them being labelled a trash fish, if they eat other fish?

go up in the river in ray hubbard in august. Fish for them like bass. They love a trick work, and fight like crazy. When the water gets hot, they are in there thick sometimes.

We caught a ton of those suckers fishing for catfish on Fork. Cut perch on the bottom was the ticket. Fork has unbelievable catfishing as well

I've caught them on topwaters in east texas. what ever lure you throw at them, they will destroy it. Seems we always caught them in the heat of the day.

So far Ive only caught them in the backs of creeks and in/near off color water.
What Gill said is spot on.

I tried to eat one while camping on toledo bend. The more I chewed the bigger the meat got. Fun to catch bad to eat.

Are Bowfin considered a sport fish in Texas? I thought they were a northern fish but what do I know?
