Hey guys,

The Mother in Law is visiting and would like to go fishing.

I'm thinking of taking her to the ferry port on Bolivar as there is the wall to walk out on which is pretty safe with nearby rest rooms (very important!!)..

I'm not expecting to catch too much, however any tips you guys could share to make her fishing day more exciting and rewarding would be very much appreciated.

I'll be taking plastics, various gulp and spoons... I'll also take the cast net so she can try with shrimp...

Thanks
A

Does she like just catching or is fishing ok? My wife won't sit around all day waiting for a few nice fish. She'd rather get some shrimp and head for the jetty. She catches a fish almost every cast and every now and then a trout or red comes along and makes her really happy.

I wish I could get my MIL to go fishing with me. I'd toss her overboard and she knows it.

Catching is more preferable... Is there somewhere better I could take her which has "old lady" amenities and isn't too busy....

Land pirate, that is very funny.
I am not married, and have had 3 mother in laws..I disliked all of them.
Glad I am single.

Get to a pier or a dock and find bait fish, use a #1/0 hook and cut up some 1 inch chunks of shrimp, let her feel fish for em.

When I'm taking kids (grannies, and MILs) I like to find a good place for pin fish, croakers, whiting, etc., they will hit hard enough to learn how to feel, and are a pretty good fight on light tackle for the inexperienced. Sometimes they will hit paydirt with a bigger game fish, that is icing on the cake.

In Fl. we had a baitfish that we called a greenback, looks like shad here, they would hit a number 12 hook when small, and a #6 when bigger tipped with shrimp under a cork. It kept kids and whoever has to take the fish off of the hook busy for hours.
